A good life in my new home – Canada!

My name is Chun-Chi. Six years ago, in 2015, I made a goal to become a Canadian, and in December 2021, I took my oath of citizenship! It’s been hard, and I’d like to thank IWC for their help and support.

I’m a network engineer, but when I arrived in Canada, I couldn’t find a job as an engineer. The only jobs I got were low-paid positions, such as a cashier and computer tech support assistant. There were no English classes available for my level, and the language barrier made it difficult to make friends.

The Immigrant Welcome Centre of Courtenay helped me to learn about the Canadian Culture and the workplace culture.

They also told me about the Health Care Access Program and helped me with my application.

Now I am in that program and enjoy working at the Complex Care Facility. I have volunteered many times with IWC and have attended their book clubs and conversation groups, they provide good opportunities to meet newcomers and make friends. I have a good job that I like, good social connections, and a good life in my new home – Canada!
