Community Kudos: John Howard Society receives award & launches project fundraiser

The Welcoming Communities Coalition partners with organizations and people in the community who are committed to growing diversity and equal opportunities in Campbell River and the Comox Valley. This is the first of many Community Kudos posts here on our blog to recognize a member’s recent accomplishment or amazing thing they are doing in the community to make it more welcoming

The John Howard Society of North Island is in the midst of fundraising for an exciting project: Foundry Comox Valley.

Foundry Comox Valley will be a safe and welcoming multi-service support centre tailored to young people ages 12 to 24.

The JHSNI announced earlier this month that from June until mid-September an anonymous donor will match up to $100,000 in donations to the Foundry Comox Valley project so this dream can be realized. Much needed renovations are being made to a building the society purchased on 10th Street in Courtenay before it can open. Donations can be made online, by e-transfer, or by mail (see JHSNI post for details). Until the end of June every online Canada Helps donation enters the charity into a draw to win $20,000!

Foundry already operates in Campbell River, integrating mental health care, substance use services, youth peer support, primary and sexual health care, and social services. We want to give them a shout out for their recent award – in March, the JHSNI announced that Foundry Campbell River was the recipient of a Community Advocacy & Integrity Award. Congratulations!
