LINC class outings enrich the learning experience

Did you know learning happens both inside and outside the classroom for our English language students?

Our Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC) instructors plan class field trips to give students different opportunities to link what they learn in class to experiences in the community.

In October, our Courtenay LINC classes visited a local farm that grows and sells pumpkins and raises livestock.

"The farm outing connects our learning about fall in Canada, harvest festivals, and Halloween," explained Esther, our Courtenay LINC instructor. "This trip was a great way to experience some of the culture and use new language in the community."

The field trips can also prompt cultural sharing and discussions about comparable experiences in other countries.

"As we were touring the fields, we also learned that two of the students have farms in their home countries," Esther said. "They were able to communicate the similarities, differences, and share some of their life with us."

Do you have a friend or family member who would benefit from taking a LINC class? They can email or call our Courtenay or Campbell River office to book an appointment with a settlement practitioner to learn more!
