Seniors talk about their concerns as newcomers to the Comox Valley

Our settlement staff invited a group of seniors who are new to Canada and Vancouver Island to meet at our Courtenay office in late October to talk about their worries as newcomers and the possible solutions.

Here are some of the concerns expressed by the group:

,

They discussed potential solutions such as booking an appointment at the Immigrant Welcome Centre, visiting the Comox Valley Lifelong Learning Centre, how to use HandyDART, what’s available through our health care system, and accessing the resources mentioned in the BC Seniors’ Guide.

Immigrant Welcome Centre staff shared the guide with the group, a compilation of provincial and federal information and resources for seniors with sections on benefits, health, lifestyle, housing, transportation, finances, safety, and more.

The BC Seniors’ Guide is available in multiple languages. If you are a senior who is new to the Island or know someone who is, you can make an appointment at our Courtenay or Campbell River office for a copy of the guide and to learn more about the resources available to seniors in our communities.
