Moving to a new country to start a new life is challenging. After Joanna arrived in Canada, she quickly realized she needed help due to differences in the environment, language, and lifestyle.
Joanna first learned about The Immigrant Welcome Centre from a family member. Her relative had enrolled in IWC’s free Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) classes. “I desperately needed to learn English, so I applied for English classes,” she said.
“I learned a lot, besides the English class,” Joanna added. The IWC staff helped her find a family doctor and assisted her with her resume. She appreciated that the staff was friendly and kind, and takes comfort knowing that if she needs help in the future they will be there.
“Every day is a new challenge for me, [and] I enjoy the challenge,” Joanna said. “It makes me feel like every day is full of anticipation.”
